What Causes Diabetes And How You Can Avoid Getting It

I've read about type 1 and type 2 diabetes my entire life, however, it wasn't until a few of my family and friends experienced the condition that I actually understood exactly what it was all about.

And now, with type 2 diabetes essentially having become an epidemic not only in the United States but across the globe, it's time for everybody to pay intelligent attention to this illness and its causes.

It appears that the excess of sugar in our contemporary diet over past decades is the main source. One may ask exactly how sugar consumption presents risks or leads to diabetes. However, when one understands precisely how sugar is metabolized in the body and exactly how diabetes disturbs this system, it ends up being very clear.

I just recently viewed a YouTube video which broke everything down very well and made everything very understandable. In a nutshell, we need sugar because it is what our cells use to produce energy, and to allow our cells to use the sugar, we need insulin, which is produced by our pancreas.

The insulin is a hormone which opens passages in our cells so that they can take in the sugar. However, there can be troubles that can influence this procedure and all of them amount to diabetes in one way or another.

One problem can be that the pancreas does not produce insulin correctly, and there can be a variety of reasons for this. Another problem is that the cells do not respond to the insulin correctly, and there can be a variety of reasons for this, too.

However, what we know for sure is that the over abundance of sugar in our diet can lead to a worn out pancreas which does not produce adequate insulin, and can likewise lead to non-responsive insulin receptors in our cells which do not permit the insulin to do its job and let our cells take in sugar. In either case, the most significant reason for type 2 diabetes in contemporary society is the excess of sugar in our diet.

The following Youtube video does a fantastic job of illustrating this in understandable detail with helpful illustrations, and also offers recommendations for alternative sweeteners useable by diabetics:
